Teen/Adult Beginning Ballet

Have you ever wanted to try ballet and never had the chance?  Or maybe you’ve had some ballet in the past and want to brush up on basic technique.  This class is for you!  A fun, inspiring, beginning ballet class geared for teens and adults.  Basic ballet barre technique and center work will be covered in this class. Come ready to learn!  Students should wear either leotard and tights or tight-fitting workout clothes, as well as leather or canvas ballet shoes.

Jazz I, II & III

Jazz technique is an American-born art form that highlights strength and flexibility in isolations, transitions, and presentation quality throughout warm up, skill building and choreography. Jazz dance combines the precision of ballet, with the excitement of pop culture, the grounding of African dance and the syncopation of jazz music. Dancers who train in jazz technique are able to pick up choreography in all forms of dance quickly, change choreographic styles with ease and increase their confidence and self esteem.

Jazz I, II, & III will focus on positions of legs, arms and body as well as a culminate progression of skills including kicks, turns and jumps/leaps. Students are required to wear a leotard, tights or jazz pants, and jazz shoes.

Lyrical/Acro I, II, & III

Lyrical/Acro technique uses the strength and line of ballet and combines it with the swing and power of jazz technique to train dancers in performance expression, versatility in technique and  fluidity in movement. Dancers who are fluid in lyrical dance have greater ability to show emotion and story line through the choreography. Acrobatics will also be taught as related to dance.   It is recommended (although not required) that you have at least one year of ballet technique. Students should wear a leotard, tights or jazz pants, and leather ballet shoes or foot undies.

Hip Hop I (Ages 6-11)

This class teaches rhythm, musicality, coordination, and age-appropriate hip hop choreography without suggestive music/movements. Hip Hop 1 is upbeat and great for kids who like to move. Students should wear loose, comfortable clothing, and non-marking sneakers.

Hip Hop II

This is the perfect class for those who are looking for advanced and more difficult choreography.  Tailored for those currently on a high school dance team or aspiring to be on one, this class teaches rhythm, isolations, attitude, and stage presence, while learning various styles of Hip Hop.

Tap I & II

These beginner and intermediate level classes will explore coordination, rhythm, basic tap steps, combinations and terminology. Students are required to wear leotard and tights or jazz pants with fitted t-shirt and tap shoes. Hair should be neatly secured away from the face.

Registration & Tuition

Dance Class Registration and Tuition Policies:

After completing the registration form, you will be contacted via email regarding your child’s placement in class(es). The first month’s tuition payment (including any applicable registration fees) will be due on the first day of class. New students who join mid-month will be pro-rated for that month. An annual registration fee of $35 ($50 family) will be added to the first month’s tuition if you are a new customer or an existing customer who has taken more than a 3-month break.  The first month’s tuition is payable by cash, check or credit card. After the first month, you may sign up for EFT payment on a monthly basis, or pay 3 months at a time (non-refundable) by cash, check or credit card. Tuition is based on the weekly time each student dances over a 10-month period (September-June), not on individual months. Allowances have been made for holidays in the tuition schedule. If a student misses a class or classes, he/she is welcome to make-up the classes within a 3 month period. Make-up classes are only allowed during months that a student is enrolled. No refunds will be given for missed classes.

Performances

“Showcase” and much, much more…

For many years, our dance studio has provided students with an exciting performance experience up to and including our Showcase. Annual performances conjure up images of unforgettable memories for many. It is a rite of passage for thousands of children and young adults, and a chance to shine in front of family and friends. Our dance studio showcase allows each student to present his/her families and friends the result of a year’s worth of hard work, dedication and progress.

Along with the chance to perform for an audience, the showcase is a learning experience and training process. The experience helps to build self-esteem, self-assurance and contributes to a sense of confidence. Although performing opportunities help prepare some students for a possible career in dance, they also contribute to success in non-dance activities. That onstage experience gives students a confidence which results in better classroom presentations, improved social skills and strong interview skills for future college or job opportunities. The rehearsal process can be a tremendous learning experience as well. It helps children develop retention skills, and by working with their classmates on a group performance, they learn the positive aspects of working as part of a team to create the best end result.
